Andrew Parker, Auctioneer and Managing Director
Started in the property industry in 1998
Since joining SDL Graham Penny in 2011 to expand the business, Andrew has established the Nottingham and Leicester offices and been named Auctioneer of the Year by the National Association of Valuers and Auctioneers (NAVA). He took up the position of Managing Director following the acquisition by SDL Group in 2016.
Andrew has more than 15 years of experience in the property market and prior to joining SDL Graham Penny he owned and operated a Reeds Rains franchise in Derby. While there he secured the titles of fastest growing and number one franchise operator. Andrew is a member of the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) and a fellow of the Institute of Sales and Marketing Management (ISMM).
Graham Penny, Auctioneer
Started in the property industry in 1971
Graham has worked in the Derbyshire property market for more than 40 years and is one of the most experienced estate agents in the region. A well-known name on the East Midlands property scene, Graham is a regular on BBC One’s Homes under the Hammer and is regarded as one of the top property auctioneers in the country.
Graham started his auction career in the late 1980s at Bagshaws, establishing its auction centre from a start-up business to a major player in the region before leaving in 2005 to set up Graham Penny Auctions (now SDL Graham Penny) with John Fearnehough and James Cokayne.
Ian Tudor, Head of Commerical: Auctions
Ian has 25 years’ experience of working in the Midlands property market. He is Head of Commercial Agency providing leasing, sale and acquisition advice to private, professional, corporate and public sector clients.
Ian’s role also involves heading up our expanding commercial auction department, advising not only in the mainstream sectors of retail, industrial and office, but also on pubs and other leisure sector properties, mixed use properties and the more unusual such as former churches, cinemas, surgeries and educational centres.
John Fearnehough, Consultant
Started in the property industry in 1990
With more than 20 years of experience in the local property market, John has overseen more than 10,000 house sales and in 2005 co-founded Graham Penny Auctions (now SDL Graham Penny) with Graham Penny and James Cokayne. Prior to this he was a director at Ashley Adams Estate Agents and also worked at Mortgage Advice Bureau.
John’s top tip for selling is to be realistic with the guide and reserve prices and to trust in the auction process. He holds a Certificate of Practice in Estate Agency, is an Associate of the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) and is trained in estate agency sales, auction conduct, estate agency legislation, management and media.
Abigail Selwood, Operations Manager
Abigail joined the SDL Graham Penny Derby office when it opened in 2006 and is one of the company’s longest standing employees. In 2012 she helped establish the new Nottingham office and is now its office manager.
Abigail holds a technical award in auctioneering, a HND in residential estate agency and in 2011 was named Auctioneer of the Year by the National Association of Valuers and Auctioneers (NAVA). Abigail was appointed as Operations Manager following the acquisition by SDL Group in 2016.
Robert Stone, Senior Valuer
Robert has more than 15 years of experience in the Derbyshire and East Midlands property market and has a thorough understanding of house building, architecture and surveying.
He started his career with Black Horse Corporate Property Services before moving to Burchell Edwards and Ashley Adams and has earned a reputation for honest, straightforward advice and excellent customer service.
Vejay Pal, Senior Valuer
Vejay joined the Nottingham team in 2014 as its senior valuer. Having previously worked as an estate agent and a private landlord in the East Midlands, Vejay has been a vendor and buyer at auctions himself so has first-hand knowledge of the auction process and imparts this valuable advice to his customers.
His main advice is to be realistic when it comes to prices; take the advice of the auction house who know the local market and can help secure its best price. Also, if you’re purchasing a property to renovate and rent or sell on then it should be decorated and furnished appropriately, not necessarily to your personal style.
Carl Finch, Senior Valuer
Carl Finch is branch manager in Leicester and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the office; providing expert advice on selling by auction along with valuations of residential and commercial property and development land.
With more than 15 years’ experience in the local property scene, Carl joined SDL Graham Penny from Auction House Leicestershire where he was auction manager. Previous to that he worked at Readings Property Group in Leicester.
Alison Jeffery, PA to Andrew Parker
Alison is PA to Andrew Parker and is based in the Derby office. She began her career at Bagshaws and when Graham Penny Auctions (now SDL Graham Penny) was established she helped set up its first auction office.
Alison loves the variety and pace at which sales take place. She has developed a solid understanding of the processes of buying and selling at auction and always recommends customers should do their homework and buyers should read the legal documents before bidding.
Naomi Fearn, Auction Negotiator
Her career highlight to date is helping to manage SDL Graham Penny’s sale of Alton Manor in Idridgehay in 2011 which sold on-site for £2.4m.
Emma Holness, Auction Negotiator
Emma joined SDL Graham Penny in 2013 after having her second child. Prior to this she worked at Ashley Adams estate agents for a number of years and in the accounts departments at a mortgage company and firm of solicitors.
Her return to working in the property sector has seen Emma expand her knowledge of auctioning and now loves managing the sale process from initial property listing through to going under the hammer on auction day.
Sam Rashid, Auction Negotiator
Sam joined the Derby team as Auction Negotiator in 2012 and has several years of experience in working in estate agency and social housing. Sam is very proud of being part of the SDL Graham Penny team, particularly enjoying dealing with the exchange of contracts process and of course auction day when she can see how she has helped vendors and buyers throughout their preparations.
Sam won the SDL Group BOCSO award for providing exceptional customer service and being trusted by our customers to get the right outcome. A very ambitious person Sam loved the challenge of competing as a finalist at the 2013 and 2016 NAVA Auctioneer of the Year competition.
Emily Waterland, Auction Negotiator
Emily joined the SDL Graham Penny Derby team in July 2014 and is enjoying building relationships with regular clients and working as team to secure the best results for them. Prior to joining the team and after completing her A Levels she worked in customer services which has given her the valuable skills for managing the high volume of auction properties.
Ruth Allen, Accounts Manager
Ruth initially joined Graham Penny Estates (now Century 21 Graham Penny) in Derby before transferring to SDL Graham Penny Nottingham auctions office when it opened in 2012.
With more than 10 years of experience working at a chartered accountancy firm, Ruth splits her time between managing the invoicing and accounts for the Nottingham auction and providing PA support to valuer Vejay Pal.
Sarah Miles, Nottingham Property Manager
Sarah joined the Nottingham auctions team following her graduation in August 2014 and is enjoying the fast paced work and the excitement of auction day. She has quickly learned about the auction sales process and is now handling the creation of property details, press adverts and property exchanges.
Laura Annable, Auction Negotiator
Laura has worked at SDL Graham Penny in various roles across Derby, Nottingham and Leicester since it opened in 2006. She has also worked as a valuer for the national auction house MustBeSold.com and was a travel agent for 12 years prior to now working in the Nottingham auctions office as an Auction Administrator.
Laura enjoys the fast moving auction cycle and her tips for anyone buying in the auction room is to “just keep bidding – but make sure you stick to your budget”.
Jayne Harrison, Auction Negotiator
Started in the property industry in 2009
Jayne joined SDL Graham Penny in March 2014 to provide occasional help on busy auction days and has now expanded her role to be an auction administrator in the Nottingham office. With a background in banking, book keeping and as a lettings manager, Jayne uses these skills to help her manage client enquiries, viewings and valuations, provide accounts support and assist with general administrative duties.
Her key piece of advice for buyers is to make sure you’ve done your research before heading to the auction room because there’s no turning back once you’ve placed your bid.
Rachael Parker, Leicester Property Manager
Rachael joined the SDL Graham Penny team in 2012 when the Nottingham office opened. Since then she has gained a thorough knowledge of the auction process and is passionate about her role.
Prior to joining SDL Graham Penny Rachael had worked for a city centre estate agents in a sales and administration role and in various customer service and administration positions.
Chrissie Walker, Head of Marketing & PR
Chrissie joined SDL Graham Penny and Century 21 Graham Penny in 2013 in a new role to create and manage a regional marketing and brand management strategy while also working to expand the company’s corporate partnerships within the Midlands and beyond.
Chrissie has more than 15 years’ marketing experience managing regional, national and international campaigns and takes a hands-on role at the auctions handling bidder registration and telephone bids.
